Guangdong government held a meeting on prevention of human bird flu yesterday (March 6) regarding a case of human bird flu death in Guangzhou.
Guangdong Vice Governor Zhong Yangsheng required responsible departments at different levels to take any possible measure to control bird flu. Zhong stressed that prevention work should focus on 6 key fields, including improving the emergency response system and carrying out thorough check on crucial areas, crowds and birdhouses.
Hospitals should be on alert of pneumonia cases without clear reason and must report cases to supervision department at the earliest time.
In addition, bird shops in Guangzhou are required to close for one day every week. This is a new measure to prevent the spread of bird flu announced by Guangzhou Mayor Zhang Guangning yesterday (March 6). On the closing day, day-off bird shops should have thorough cleaning and disinfection. The policy will take effect this month.
