TONG XING, Party chief of Dongguan City and Lin Musheng, Party chief of Shantou, were elected new vice governors of Guangdong yesterday at a session of the provincial people's congress, the top provincial legislature body.
Tong, 55, was deputy secretary of the Dongguan Municipal Committee of the CPC and mayor of Dongguan between 1997 and 2000. He had been the city's Party chief and people's congress standing committee chairman since 2001.
Lin, 50, was mayor of Jieyang City in 1998. He became Jieyang's Party chief in 2000 and Shantou's Party chief and people's congress standing committee chairman in 2004.
The six-day Fourth Session of the 10th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, which concluded yesterday, approved the government work report delivered by Governor Huang Huahua, the province's 11th Five-Year Program from 2006 to 2010 and the government's budget. It also passed the reports of the provincial court and procuratorate.
Also at yesterday's meeting, You Ningfeng, former vice governor of Guangdong, was elected vice chairman of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee.
