Guangdong is conducting a phone survey to investigate the prevalence of flu in the province and surrounding areas, the New Express reported yesterday.
The Guangzhou leg of the survey, involving 540 households, has been completed. The Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) would announce the results of the survey in Guangzhou next week, the report said.
Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macao will be surveyed from the beginning of April. The survey is organized by the Guangdong CDC, with CDCs in Hong Kong, Macao, Shenzhen and Zhuhai also participating. It is said to be of the largest scale ever recorded in the nation.
Each city's CDC will sample 540 households to collect information about the flu awareness of residents, whether they had been vaccinated, and whether they had shown any flu-like symptoms in the last three months of last year.
The Guangdong CDC promised to protect the privacy of all the households surveyed.
