A 51-YEAR-OLD man, who broke his leg while saving a girl in danger three months ago, said he has never regretted his act when thanked by the girl's father recently.
Zhang Long, a Shenzhen Museum employee, saved a 7-year-old girl called Zhang He from injury and possible death caused by brake failure in her bicycle. The girl was riding a bike down Bijia Hill on Oct. 15, 2005, when the brake suddenly failed. It was very dangerous as the road was curving down, and there were trees on both sides of the road.
Zhang, who was passing by, rushed without hesitation to pull the girl out of the bike. The two fell down hard on the road, and while the girl was safe, Zhang was injured.
Zhang left the girl and her mother without revealing his name or address, though the mother offered to take him to a doctor.
Three months later, one of Zhang’s nieces mentioned her uncle’s act to her friend, who happened to be a colleague of the girl’s father. Zhang He’s father still felt gratitude toward the anonymous brave man, and tracked Zhang down.
Zhang said a bone in his left knee was broken but he didn’t realize it until he went to see the doctor. “I never regret what I have done, especially after the girl bowed and said a ‘thank you’ to me that day,” he said.
