Guangdong plans to start large oil refining, LNG and a series of other infrastructure projects in the coming five years. The information was released in Guangdong's development and reform work meeting yesterday.
Executive Vice Governor Zhong Yangsheng said in the meeting that in the coming year, development and reform departments in Guangdong shall focus on six tasks: enhancing innovation capacity, rural area’s construction, change of economic growth mode and green Guangdong projects, promoting regional cooperation, reform in key sectors and building a harmonious society.
According to Guangzhou Daily's report, the meeting also released a news that Guangdong hopes to start a super-large oil refinery with Kuwait, which will involved an investment of 5 billion USD.
In the coming "11th 5-year plan period" (2006-2010), Guangdong will add 180 billion RMB to develop its petrol-chemical industry and build five bases in Guangzhou, Daya Bay (Huizhou), west coastline (Zhanjiang and Maoming), Yamenkou (Zhuhai and Jiangmen) and east coastline (Shantou, Chaozhou and Jieyang).
The province also require the new petrol-chemical projects to be resource-saving and environmental friendly.
Easing electricity shortage
Couples of power plants will be put into use in 2006 and 2007, and the province’s electricity shortage will end in 2007.
Rail connecting Guangzhou to Shenzhen and Zhuhai
The construction of railways connecting Pearl River Delta cities was also under discussion in the meeting. According to the plan, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen and Guangzhou-Zhuhai lines will finish construction in 2010, and in 2020, Guangdong will have a rail network cored with Guangzhou and with 800 kilos of railways.
