The list of China's most famous brands of 2005 was announced on Sep 1 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, and Guangdong ranked No.1 in terms of the number of companies on the list.

This is the fifth consecutive time Guangdong brands have held the top position since the annual famous brand evaluation started in 2001.

501 brands were selected as Chinese famous brands this year including 165 brands from Guangdong. The Shuangxi Cigarette Company is the 1st Guangdong based tobacco brand to make it onto the list.

According to insiders from Guangdong Administration of Quality and Technology Supervision, each company that receives the famous brand award will receive at least 1 million RMB by Guangdong People's Government.
