Guangdong sends medical specialists to Tibet
Latest Updated by 2005-08-16 18:21:35

"Health Express" a volunteer medical organization based in Guangdong sent a group of medical specialists to Tibet today (Aug. 16) in response to a special request for additional medical staff.

The request came last month from the Tibet support unit of Guangdong, and the Communist Youth League committee of the Linzhi region of Tibet.

Because of Tibet's unique weather, geographic and economic challenges, residents in the region often struggle to receive adequate medical treatment. The call for help was answered by the Sun Yat-Sen University hospitals who quickly organized an elite group of medical specialists including ophthalmology professor Liu Yizhi and kidney specialist Yu Xueqing.

The elite group will start medical treatments, epidemiology research and medical equipment donations upon arriving in the region.
