SZ to bid for hosting World University Games
Latest Updated by 2004-12-30 15:41:13

Shenzhen has received State Council's go-ahead to bid for the 26th World University Games which is to be held in 2011. This young and dynamic city may become the second Chinese city to host the game, after Beijing.

Shenzhen is busy preparing for bidding. Source reveals, the city will build a new International Olympic Center in Longguang district, which will feature a 60,000-seat main stadium and a 16,000-seat gym, a 350,000-sq.m. sport square and other facilities. The project of Olympic village is also in its plan. Shenzhen's stadiums and gyms, already existing or in plan, add up to about 30 in number, which is sufficient for hosting such a game.

Shenzhen is the second city in Guangdong province to bid for hosting large-scale games, after Guangzhou, who won in the bidding for 2010 Asian Games in July, 2004.
