The price of ginger is currently as expensive as pork in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, reports Zhongshan Daily.
The ginger at local market has hit 12-13 yuan (US$1.50-$1.80) each kilogram, much more expensive than that of pork.
While before Spring Festival, the price was only 4 yuan (50 US cents) per kilogram.
Business people in the local markets said the reason was that the supply from Shandong Province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was much less than before, and fewer farmers in Guangdong are planting ginger.
