President of Amway (China) Audie Wong recently came to Beijing from Guangzhou to attend the ceremony held by the Health Food Association of China to confer the certificate to No. 1 sales enterprise 2002 of the top 100 Chinese health food industry. He said,"The outbreak of SARS offers us an insight into the enormous tonic and healthcare market in China. In the future, Amways products will firstly meet the needs of the Chinese market, and of course, it is also possible that Amway China will serve as the production base in Asia."Amways increase in investment in China made Audie Wong more confident in the business in China.
On June 28, board chairman of Amway Steve Van Andel arrived at Guangzhou to sign the US$120-million investment increase plan with China. It is learned that this is the largest investment increase project of its kind by multinationals in China since the outbreak of SARS epidemic, which urged them to speed up the localization of production; and that Amway has always regarded China as its largest overseas market. Amway expanded its plants for the 5th time last year, set up the logistic center this year, and part of its increased investment will be earmarked for the expansion of the new-phase plants.
