Guangdong successfully defended its title as the national GDP champion in the past five years, increasing its contribution to national GDP from 1/9 to 1/8. Meanwhile, the province made effort to switch to greener development track and has its energy consumption and pollution drop. 

The provincial government put people's livelihood top of their work chart. And the whole province overcame the hard times of SARS, bird flu and several hurricanes as the public health system and crisis management were improved. Both rural and urban residents saw their income increased. And education of all levels saw growth of their enrollment rates.

Meanwhile, great progress have achieved in public service, culture and other social systems.
