An official with Taiwan's "Ministry of Justice" has revealed that the "ministry" is dealing with more than 400 bribery cases related to mayoral and city council elections in the cities of Taipei and Kaohsiung.
Fifty-three of the bribery cases concern elections for mayors of the two cities, and a further 410 cases relate to elections for city councilors, according to the official.
Elections for mayors and city councilors in Taiwan's two biggest cities will be held on Dec. 9.
A city councilor has been prosecuted for handing out bribes to garner votes in the upcoming election, the official said.
Taiwan's "prosecuting authorities" are pursuing their investigations of the bribery cases, the official said.
