The first reproductive health course for Guangdong province held its first lesson last Thursday in Guangzhou. According to the hospital's obstetrics outpatient unit chief Li Bing, the nation's current rate of infertile couples is about 10% of the entire population of married people at childbearing age and Guangzhou's ratio is similar to the national trend. This is in sharp contrast to previous ratios of about 3%.
According to Li Bing, there are many reasons leading to infertility, the main ones being modern day's competitive lifestyle and overly heavy mental pressure leading to endocrine dyscrasia. And environmental, industrial and food pollution are becoming more serious, leading to spontaneous abortions and other infections. All these are the leading causes of infertility.
Li Bing treats more than 2,000 infertile cases each month, with 90% of these cases being confirmed infertilities, an average of more than 70 patients each day.
