Flooding over the weekend in south China's Guangdong and Fujian Provinces have resulted in two fatalities and sixteen injuries, while 21 people are still missing.

Torrential rain triggered the flood which destroyed seven small power stations. Yongding county in Fujian, where the two deaths occurred, has witnessed its biggest flood in 15 years.

Since May, continuous rains have caused serious flooding in many provinces in eastern and southern China. A total of 137 people have been killed and 39 are missing. Over 100,000 houses have been destroyed and 1.14 million people have been forced to evacuate. Direct economic losses are estimated at about 11.3 billion yuan.

The rain had abated on Monday. Repair work is underway and the local government is helping villagers to resume production.
