Turin Winter Olympics: The world's moved by China

The most touching moment in Turin 2006 Winter Olympics is not on the high podium for medal winners. Rather, it occurred on the eve of pairs figure skating on Feb. 13. The last duo on that day, Chinese athletes Zhang Dan and Zhang Hao tried to finish an unprecedented throw quad salchow but Zhang Dan failed to stick the landing and injured herself.

However, they shocked the audience as they stood up on the ice once again in less than two minutes. The spectators dedicated stormy applauses to the brave Chinese girl as they watched the pair's performance in tears. European and Canadian TV commentators couldn't help sobbing in their live broadcast.

The next day western media made reports on the perfect interpretation of the Olympic spirit by the Chinese athletes. Although Zhang Dan and Zhang Hao only won the silver, they are the real golden heroes in people's mind.

The fabulous jump by Han Xiaopeng in the final of freestyle skiing men's aerials won China its first ever snow gold. Wang Meng beat many rivals to win the women's short-track 500m gold. Zhao Hongbo created a miracle not long after he came out of a serious injury. All these cast radiant splendor on Chinese athletes in Turin Winter Olympics.

From Salt City to Turin, Chinese athletes made great progress in the winter events in just four years, which has surprised the international sports circles. In particular, the ever-striving spirit and good sportsmanship left every one a deep impression in the games just concluded. Whether in strong events or weak ones, Chinese athletes strived until the end. Chinese journalists in Turin also received respect from foreign peers because of the excellent performance and tenacious spirit of Chinese athletes. All the Chinese in the world take pride in Chinese athletes' excellent performance in Turin.

The flame of Turin 2006 Winter Olympics has gone out and the approaching of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games makes people feel how time flies. As the host of the 29th Olympics, Beijing is deeply aware of its tremendous responsibility. The precious experience and lessons of Athens and Turin in holding the summer Olympics and winter Olympics need to be seriously studied. While in Turin, many reporters asked us about the preparation of the Beijing Olympic Games, which shows their great expectation. As they said, they all hoped to come to Beijing to cover the Games, believing Beijing would hold an excellent Olympics.

Pressure at the same time is also an incentive. The preparation of the Beijing Olympics has entered the last moments and final sprint. After covering many Olympics we feel that the organization work of the Olympics is a huge and complex process involving the support and effort by all sides. This global grand occasion can be successful only if we work with the attitude of seizing every minute in a meticulous manner.

Chinese athletes' spirit demonstrated in Turin Olympics is the role model for the sports circles as well as for Beijing to prepare in its preparation for 2008 Olympic Games. Zhang Dan, Han Xiaopeng and Wang Meng told us with their endeavor that as long as you do your best, you'll sure win something.

China's sports undertaking has entered a fast lane along with its economy. The world marvels at China as it's moved by China.
