With no new case of bird flu reported for over 21 successive days, isolation in the eight bird flu-hit areas of Guangdong has been lifted by 7:00 pm Mar 5th.

The eight areas are Chao'an County (Chaozhou), Haifeng County (Shanwei), Jiedong County (Jieyang), Luoding County (Yunfu), Doumen District (Zhuhai), Maogang District (Maoming), Jiangcheng District (Yangjiang) and Nanxiong (Shaoguan).

Thanks to the great efforts of provincial and local governments as well as animal epidemic prevention and control organizations, there has been no new bird flu report in the whole province for 23 successive days since Feb. 12th, releases a briefing held by Information Office and Department of agriculture, Guangdong Provincial People's Government March 5th.

In dealing with bird flu outbreak, related governmental authorities have taken immediate action to designate and quarantine the bird flu-hit spot, the bird flu-hit area (Area within 3 kilometers of the bird flu-hit spot) and the threatened area (Area within 5 kilometers of the bird flu-hit spot) so as to prevent the spreading of the outbreak.

Guided by the eight measures on bird flu prevention and control mapped out by central government, Guangdong organized experts to conduct analysis on the bird flu situations and started up an emergency system, and finally successfully controlled the epidemics and prevented the flu from transferring to human being.

The epidemic monitoring and reporting systems of Guangdong have gain much experience in the battle against bird flu and will be more mature in dealing with such epidemic outbreaks in the future.

No single case of bird flu has been reported in the 310 poultry farms supplying living poultries for Hong Kong and Macao. "We have been fully prepared to resume supplying living poultries for the two regions." Says Mr. Chen Fulin, Deputy Director of Guangdong Agriculture Department in the briefing.
