Hong-xiannu, a leading Canton opera performer |
A cartoon film adapted from a well-known Canton opera will be introduced to Chinese audiences at the end of 2003, Hongxiannu, producer of the film said Saturday at a news conference.
The classic Canton opera, The Princess and Her Husband, was among the favorites of Hong-xiannu, a leading Canton opera performer who devoted all her life to performing.
Noticing that the number of Canton opera fans was falling, she hopes this film will help young people to understand and love the traditional art.
Traditionally, Canton operas were restricted to a stage and scenes and plots have to be presented in a symbolic way. However, through cartoon techniques, the scenes would become much more vivid, said Hongxiannu.
The flavor of the original opera would not be lost in the process of adaptation, she said, because the classic performing skills of the traditional operas would be adopted in the film.
Zhang Changliang, the cartoon designer for the film, said it would be made exclusively by domestic staff.
