Brazil snatched their ninth straight victory 3-1 over Russia to enter the semifinals of the 2006 women's volleyball World Championship on Sunday (Nov 12th).

Brazil, who crushed Russia 27-29, 25-14, 27-25, 25-22, became the only team that remained an unbeaten record so far in the tournament.

Brazil, who claimed their third straight title in the World Volleyball Grand Prix on September, will face Serbia and Montenegro in the semifinals.

Serbia and Montenegro bounced back from their 3-2 defeat by Japan on Saturday to beat Chinese Taipei 25-22, 24-26, 19-25, 25-15, 15-13 to record a sixth win in Group E and book one of two qualifying places.

Defending champions Italy, who defeated host Japan 27-17, 28-26,25-23 to book a semifinal berth, will play Russia in another semifinal clash.

Cuba rounded off Pool E with a perfect second round record after laboring to a 25-18, 28-26, 25-23 victory against Poland.

Cuba will face China, who surprisingly lost to the Netherlands 25-21, 25-17, 23-25, 22-25, 12-15, next round and the winner could advance into the fifth place play-off.

Also on Sunday, already-eliminated Korea turned in a dazzling display of attacking to beat Turkey 25-14, 25-13, 25-22.

The United States saved three straight match point beat Germany25-27, 25-23, 19-25, 26-24, 15-11.

Azerbaijan ended their Group F program with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 victory over Puerto Rico in a match that had no bearing on the top six qualifiers.
