Democratic People's Republic of Korea thrashed Thailand 9-0 in a Group B match at the Asian Football Confederation women's Asian Cup tournament on Tuesday in Adelaide, Australia.
The AFC Women's Asian Cup doubles as a qualifier for FIFA's Women's World Cup in China next year as top two finishers of the nine teams, plus women's World Cup host China, will clinch automatic qualifications for the women's soccer gala.
With the victory at Hindmarsh Stadium, DPRK reclaimed its seventh spot in the ranking of world football's governing body FIFA.
They next face Myanmar in their second match in Group B which also includes Australia and South Korea.
If China finishes higher than third in the tournament, the fourth-placed team will have to play off against the third-placed team in CONCACAF which comprises North and Central America and the Caribbean teams to get a berth in the Women's World Cup.
