French top-seeded Amelie Mauresmo beat Ana Ivanovic of Serbia and Montenegro 6-1, 6-4 on Wednesday, earning her first Nasdaq-100 Open semifinal held in Miami.

Mauresmo needed just 65 minutes to beat end Ivanovic, who defeated seeded Russians Nadia Petrova and Svetlana Kuznetsova before falling to the French woman.

Mauresmo's win keeps alive her faint hopes of recapturing the No.1 ranking from Lindsay Davenport. She has a mathematical chance of overhauling the American but needs to win the title to have anypossibility.

The Frenchwoman improved to 18-4 this year and is seeking her second tournament title.

Maria Sharapova, who is behind Mauresmo at No.3 in the rankings, will play Venus Williams in the semi-finals.

The other quarter-final was being played later on Wednesday between Russia's Elena Dementieva and Belgian Kim Clijsters.
