World champions Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin showed their class in the pairs short program on Monday, earning a personal best of 70.12 points to lead the field at the World Championships here.
The Russian duo's routine to Ave Maria put them 3.18 points ahead of compatriots Maria Petrova and Alexei Tikhonov before Wednesday's decisive free skate.
Maria and Tikhonov performed last and skated into the second place with a dynamic and passionate Tango.
Three Chinese pairs stood in the following three positions as former world champions Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo scored 66.00 to rank third while Zhang Dan and Zhang Hao finished fourth in 64.19 with Pang Qing and Tong Jian .17 behind.
