Beijing Olympic organizers has added Grammy-winning music producer Quincy Jones to the roster of star arts consultants for the opening and closing ceremony of the 2008 Games.
Jones, a 26-time Grammy Awards winner, joins a creation team that includes Hollywood filmmaker Steven Spielberg and fellow Oscar-winning director Ang Lee, the Beijing Organizing Committee (BOCOG) said. Renowned Chinese director Zhang Yimou will serve aschief director for the opening and closing ceremonies.
In a musical career that has spanned six decades, the 73-year-old Jones has earned his reputation as a renaissance man of American music. He has distinguished himself as a bandleader, a songwriter, a producer, an arranger, a film composer, and a recordlabel executive, and outside of music, he's also written books, produced major motion pictures, and helped create television series.
In May this year, during his first visit to China, Jones expressed his willingness to compose for the Beijing Olympics, which will take place Aug. 8-24, 2008.
