Man ordered to stay away from Halle Berry
Latest Updated by 2005-03-03 15:12:02

A U.S. judge issued a three-year restraining order against a man accused of harassing and threatening movie star Halle Berry.

Santa Monica Superior Court judge Linda Lefkowitz said that security guard Robert Sawyer must stay 100 yards (91 meters) from the actress, as well as her home, her work and her vehicle, in an order that expires Feb. 27, 2008.

Berry, who became the first black woman to take home the best actress Oscar at the 2002 ceremony for her role as the wife of a death row prisoner in Monster's Ball, was not in court.

Halle Berry won an Academy Award. Now she?s won a Razzie. Berry was picked Saturday as worst actress for 2004's action bomb Catwoman, which also took the prize for worst film at the 25th annual Razzies, an Oscar spoof that trashes Hollywood's lowpoints.

Sawyer's letters to the actress showed "delusions he has about a purported romantic relationship" with Berry, court papers state.

Security for Berry told him to have no further communication with the actress in November 2004. Sawyer went on to send more letters, one talking of his intent to visit her on Valentine's Day "to fulfill his delusions of a romantic relationship."

Sawyer apologized for "disturbing Berry the way I've done" and promised not to bother her anymore.

He said he had met an attractive woman who claimed to be Berry and had asked him to write a manuscript for her. As a result, both he and the actress were victims of a fraud, he said.

Asking Berry to remove the restraining order, Sawyer said it would cost him his job.

Berry, who was a presenter at Sunday's Oscars awards, has a string of film credits to her name, including her role as a Bond girl in the British spy thriller Die Another Day, and turns in Swordfish, X-Men, Bulworth and Losing Isaiah.
