The organizer of the Internet-based TOEFL test has so far set up 48 test rooms in 26 Chinese cities, said the Examination Center of the Chinese Ministry of Education in Beijing Saturday (Feb 24).
A total of 18 test rooms were newly added at the beginning of this year. They are located in Chongqing, Harbin, Nanning, Shijiazhuang, Jinan, Kunming, Lanzhou, Nanchang, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Changsha, Taiyuan, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Qingdao and Urumqi.
All the newly-added test rooms will be put into use by the end of March, which means TOEFL tests shall be available in almost all the regional capitals in China by then.
TOEFL, standing for Test of English as Foreign Language, was a must for students who wish to study in universities of the United States.
It is estimated that 70,000 Chinese attend TOEFL each year, accounting for 10 percent of the total examinees in the world.
