With the records of celebration being found in the chorography of Maoming dating back as early as Ming and Qing dynasty, Nian Li was once very prevailing in the early stage and the 50's of last century, then was forced to hault during Cultural Revolution, and restored gradually later in 80's.
The most important activity of Nian Li is offering the sacrifice to God, praying for good luck and also feasting the relatives and friends.
In Nian Li celebration, lantern lightening and the so-called "You Shen"(God's parade) are traditional events, other entertaining programs such as movie shows, drama and light music concerts will also be arranged.
