FORTY-FOUR additional high-speed bullet trains will run between Shenzhen and Guangzhou daily from July 1 to Aug. 31.
The move is to provide more convenience for travelers during the upcoming summer holiday, the Shenzhen Railway Station announced yesterday (June 18).
The addition of the trains will take the current number of CRH (China Railway High-speed) trains running daily between Shenzhen and Guangzhou from 118 to 162.
During that period, 25 slower intercity trains will be temporarily discontinued.
The summer holiday train schedule is available at the station and ticket agents across the city. Passengers can also get the latest timetable by calling 9510-5160.
“We expect more than 27 million people within the province to travel by train during the 62-day summer travel peak, most of whom are students, tourists and migrant workers, a 9-percent jump over the same period last year,” said a spokesperson for the Guangzhou train group, which provides the Guangzhou-Shenzhen train service.
She said she expected the daily passenger flow to reach 485,000 at the end of August.
“We advise long-haul passengers to book their tickets early to avoid disappointment,” she added.
The company expects a shortage in train tickets to popular destinations like Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Wuhan, Wuchang and Zhengzhou.
The CRH trains, designed for a maximum operating speed of 250 kilometers per hour, already cover major cities in East and South China. Shenzhen was among the first cities in the country to use CRH trains.
