Missing Hong Kong girl found in Shenzhen
Latest Updated by 2007-05-30 09:17:11

A 10-YEAR-OLD Hong Kong girl was found in Shenzhen yesterday (May 29), one day after her family reported her missing, the South China Morning Post cited Hong Kong police as saying on its Web site.

The girl, Tai Chi-kwan, looked anxious when she was found in a Shenzhen shopping center, the Web site said.

Tai had been last seen by her grandfather at 3:30 p.m. Monday on her way to a tutorial school in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong. About 15 minutes later, her family was told by the school she had vanished.

Records from Hong Kong's Immigration Department showed the girl had passed through Luohu Checkpoint and landed on the mainland at 5 p.m.

It was not immediately known whether the girl crossed the border alone or why she was in Shenzhen.

Earlier yesterday, Hong Kong police obtained more details about the girl from her parents and liaised with mainland authorities for help.

The principal of Methodist School, where Tai studied, said the girl was among the Hong Kong pupils who visited Guangdong last week for a 10th anniversary celebration of Hong Kong's 1997 return to the motherland. It was possible Tai had kept her home visit permit, the school principal said.

Police had said Tai was last seen wearing her Methodist School uniform and black shoes.
