DOCTORS removed a tumor weighing 6.6 kilograms from a woman patient Friday, saving her from danger of death, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Saturday (May 12).
The woman, identified only by her surname Li, was discharged from hospital over the weekend.
Li, 52, a farmer in Bao'an District, sought treatment at the Longhua branch of Shenzhen People's Hospital after her stomach became swollen over the past three years and she suffered symptoms including low appetite and abdominal distention, the Daily report said. Her stomach was as big as that of a pregnant woman when she was hospitalized.
Doctors found a huge tumor - as big as a basketball - in her body. After the tumor was removed, Li said she felt relaxed and all her symptoms had gone, according to Xia Zhen, a doctor with the hospital.
The tumor was a benign ovarian mucinous cystadenoma, which could have turned malicious and fatal if not treated in time, said Xia.
