As a Shenzhener and university student, I have every reason to be joyful these days. It is because Shenzhen has been chosen to host the 26th Summer Universiade in 2011. My classmates and friends have been talking about this exciting news for days.
It's the first world-class sporting event that Shenzhen will hold. How are we going to benefit from it? Different people may have different views. Business people may see great business opportunities. Jobless people may see good working chances. Athletes may see the right time to win an honor for the nation.
Yeah, they all are right, but don't you think that we should ask first what we could do for the city to make holding the Universiade even better?
As a common Shenzhener, I would love to do my bit to help athletes and spectators from all over the world have wonderful time during the 2011 Summer Universiade in our city.
What could I do then?
I could be a voluntary English interpreter. Firstly, I have been studying English since I was a primary school student. Secondly, I have been an English interpreter for many organizations and companies. The experience will benefit my voluntary work during the Universiade.
Besides, I could also be a Spanish interpreter. I started learning Spanish about one year ago. I am a beginner, but it doesn't mean I won't be qualified as a Spanish interpreter in 2011. Now I keep practicing Spanish every day no matter how busy I am. I often practice my spoken Spanish with my classmates and my teacher. I will soon graduate from university and go to work. I want to go to Spain to learn authentic Spanish before the 26th Universiade begins.
I want to stress again that all Shenzhen's citizens should think first about what they can do for the Universiade before we think how we can benefit from it. I hope that people from both home and abroad will have big smiles on their faces during the Universiade in 2011.
