Foshan family 'slayer' arrested in Guangzhou
Latest Updated by 2007-01-04 09:03:45

A MAN accused of killing five family members and one of his employees in Foshan, Guangdong Province, was arrested Monday (Jan 1st) in the provincial capital Guangzhou, local police confirmed yesterday.

Huang Wenyi, 34, allegedly killed his 7-year-old son, wife Cai Qiuyi, his mother-in-law, two sisters-in-law and a woman who worked in his pharmacy, according to Foshan police.

The murders occurred at around 2 a.m. Thursday in Fu'an residential community in Nanhai District, local police said.

Police earlier issued a class-A warrant for Huang's arrest, offering a 50,000-yuan reward (US$6,400) for information on finding him, which they later doubled.

Huang has since confessed to the crimes, police said.

A local newspaper, The Information Times, quoted sources close to the investigation as saying that Huang suspected that he was not the natural father of his son although police haven't officially provided any details as to his motives.

There have been several family murder cases since last November.

Wen Jiangang, head of Xingren County, Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Ethnic Minority Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, was found murdered together with his wife, son, mother-in-law, elder sister and the family babysitter Nov. 27.

A Gansu criminal judge and his family members as well as their nanny were killed at home in mid-December. Chen and his wife were both 58, the grandson 7 and the nanny thought to be 16.
