A MCL cinema will open on the fifth floor of the Garden City Center shopping mall in Shekou on Sunday (August 6).
Some Hong Kong celebrities such as Karen Mok will show up and cheer the opening ceremony.
Starting next week, moviegoers will be able to enjoy a discount of 50 percent on tickets every Tuesday.
The MCL cinema is a project of Hong Kong Intercontinental Group's MCL (Multiplex Cinema Ltd.), one of Hong Kong's most recognized cinema groups. With a total of 700 seats, the five individual cinemas will provide moviegoers with a pleasant environment and five-star facilities. Movies to be screened in the coming days include "Superman Returns," "Mission Impossible 3," "Dragon Tiger Gate" and "Bandidas."
The cinema is expected to become a trendy place to go for residents of Nanshan District.
The Garden City Center, developed by China Merchants Real Estate (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd., offers customers one-stop services like shopping, entertainment, recreation and catering. The project covers an area of 39,322 square meters, including 70,500 square meters for commercial use and over 800 parking lots, becoming one of the largest commercial centers in Nanshan.
Since opening Apr. 29, the center has received some 500,000 customers so far. Besides MCL cinema, well-known brands, such as Decathlon sports goods, Zijincheng department store, Chow Tai Fook jewelry, Genryoku Sushi and B&Q home improvement, can be found in the shopping mall.
