Green touches for Shenzhen
Latest Updated by 2005-02-08 09:39:59

German Holger Kunz is interested in putting more green touches to the city's environment.

Having lived in Shenzhen for three years, Kunz has special feelings for the city.

"I often like to compare Hong Kong with Shenzhen. While Hong Kong is a typical business metropolis, Shenzhen is more environmentally friendly.

He is now promoting a "green office" plan. Instead of using disposable cups, he has asked his staff to use glasses. His offices are equipped with an automatic switch system in case computers or lights are not turned off. By launching the green office campaign, Kunz is confident more people will be encouraged to raise their environmental protection awareness.

Kunz is also happy with the Shenzhen Metro. "It is not just an environmentally friendly form of public transport but also makes life more convenient particularly for those who often commute from Luohu Checkpoint to Hong Kong."

Kunz has many suggestions for involving more people in environmental protection.

"Shenzhen can arrange weekend garbage collections at scenic spots. People can go hiking while contributing to environmental protection."

Kunz has a dream that one day an open-air cafe street will be built along the shores of Shenzhen Bay where people will be able to enjoy the beach without heading for Dameisha or Xiaomeisha.
