British Museum exhibits to come to Beijing
Latest Updated by 2005-01-11 10:28:12

More than 270 objects from the British Museum will be on display in the revamped Capital Museum in Beijing from late November this year.

The reconstructed Capital Museum will open to the public Oct. 1, 2005, which is China's National Day. The exhibition from the British Museum will be the museum's first major event.

A Capital Museum source said the museum has been talking with many famous museums throughout the world to hold exhibitions in Beijing. The British Museum exhibition comes as a result of these talks.

More than 270 objects from Asia that are now kept in the British Museum will be showcased in the November exhibition in Beijing. The Beijing exhibition will be the collection's second leg in Asia after a six-month exhibition in South Korea from May to November.

According to staff at Capital Museum, the museum is now preparing to move into its new building. The renovated museum will focus on history, urban development and Beijing's folk culture. Its exhibits will be divided into seven categories including bronze ware, jade ware, porcelain, traditional stationery, calligraphy and paintings.

Capital Museum has employed China's top experts to restore more than 1,000 exhibits. The museum currently has 250,000 objects on display, 700,000 ancient coins and a large number of old books.
