The Hong Kong Cultural Industry Pavilion illustrates a blend of East and West at the International Cultural Industry Fair.
"Hong Kong is a place where cultures of the East and the West converged to give birth to a large pool of creative talents. Hong Kong is a highly developed economy with strong protection for property. Our cultural industries have secured considerable success and reputation locally and beyond," said Patrick Ho, secretary for home affairs of the Hong Kong SAR Government.
Titled From Idea to Power, the Hong Kong pavilion has six exhibition zones: publishing, design, printing, comics, digital entertainment and a showcase of Hong Kong cultural industry development and its cooperation with Guangdong.
The publishing zone illustrates Hong Kong as the regional headquarters of publishers of many international newspapers, magazines and books with about 50 newspapers and 850 periodicals registered there. Some 95 international organizations have offices in Hong Kong, publishing more than 20,000 books and periodicals annually.
The design section demonstrates that Hong Kong can offer professional services in such areas as graphics, interior and fashion design. The printing exhibit shows that printing is Hong Kong's largest manufacturing industry and in 2003 it was the fourth largest producer of printed material for the United States and the largest for China.
According to the digital entertainment illustrations, many of Hong Kong's creations feature Chinese martial arts, giving the region a reputation as the global hub of martial arts digital entertainment production.
