Highlights of the First International Cultural Industry Fair to be held from Nov. 18 through 22 will also feature a kite-flying competition.
More than 10,000 contestants will compete their kite-flying skill at Lotus Hill Park in Futian District on Nov. 13.
Some professional kite-flying teams from across the country will perform stunts at the final, said organizers.
Saturday's Lotus Hill Park was a sea of flying kites as a qualifying competition was held there. Hundreds of families from some 14 housing communities took part in the qualifying event.
The youngest participant was an 18-month-old baby, who grasped the kite string while his mother held him and ran to help fly the kite.
The fair emblem and mascot Wenpeng, a designed cartoon character, appeared on many of the kite designs.
With professionals invited to be on the judging panel, contestants were judged on the comprehensive effect, height and stability of their kites.
