Precious works of art to show at cultural fair
Latest Updated by 2004-09-21 16:12:50

The First International Cultural Industry Fair, to be held from Nov. 18 through 22, will showcase many unique works of art in an exhibition of national treasures.

These include a large folding screen with calligraphic inscriptions on drum-shaped stone blocks dating from the Warring States Period (475-221 B.C.).

Others include a precious topaz mountain weighing 800 kg. It was made of Hetian topaz produced in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. A tree root sculpture shaped like an eagle which is said to be the largest of its kind in the world will also be shown. It weighs 9.3 tons and stands 2.13 meters high, with its wings stretching 4.9 meters long.

A 71-year-old badge collector named Chen Hanzhang will also have one of his long-cherished collections --- the largest aluminum-made badge in China --- displayed at the fair. The badge was engraved with the portrait of Mao Zedong and it measures 50cm in diameter.

More than 1,000 arts and crafts items will be showcased at the national treasure exhibition area in Hall E of the China Hi-Tech Exhibition Center.
