A large audience gathered to commemorate the birth of Deng Xiaoping at a special exhibition titled Xiaoping and Shenzhen, which opened in Guan Shanyue Art Museum on Sunday (Aug 22).
The exhibition was dedicated to Deng's 100th birth anniversary, which fell on Aug. 22.
The opening ceremony was attended by past and present city leaders, including Huang Liman, secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and Li Hongzhong, Shenzhen Mayor, and Li Hao and Li Youwei, former secretaries of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC.
Mayor Li attributed the city's prosperity and development over the past two decades to Deng.
"The Xiaoping and Shenzhen exhibition provides us with a special occasion to cherish the memory of Deng and look to our bright future," said Li.
The exhibition is divided into five parts, featuring historic documents and artifacts, photographs, fine art and calligraphic works, and feature movies about Deng.
Among exhibits, a number of artifacts are shown to the public for the first time, such as the manuscript Deng wrote for the Shenzhen Economic Zone in 1984, and the shovel Deng used in planting a tree in Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden in 1992.
As a highlight of the exhibition, 49 photographic works about Deng taken by his daughter Deng Lin are being exhibited with the title of Father in the Daughter's Eyes.
The exhibition will be free to the public until Sept. 8.
