'Great Wall' may be road
Latest Updated by 2004-05-28 09:25:58

THE picture of what was thought to be the Great Wall taken by a European Space Agency (ESA) satellite might be a mountain road, a Chinese expert said Thursday.

The (ESA) recently published the photo saying it showed the Great Wall.

However, it turned out to be a mistake and the ESA later said what was thought to have been the Great Wall was a river.

But in a further development, Ji Jiliang, of the Beijing Institute of Surveying and Mapping, told Xinhua News Agency on Wednesday that the image was of a road in Miyun County, Beijing.

Ji said staff at the institute came to this conclusion after comparing the picture with maps and other pictures.
