the design of  "treasure container"

Sources with Guangdong Museum revealed yesterday(May 15th) that the new museum building is likely to be shaped like a "treasure container", a blue print rendered by Rocco Design Limited, Hong Kong.

Located next to the new Guangzhou Opera House, the new museum will cover an area of 60,000 square metres and an investment of 900 million yuan. It will become one of the landmark buildings presenting Guangdong culture on completion.

Starting from last year, nine designers from home and abroad took part in the architecture design competition for the new museum. The altogether 9 schemes provided by the rivals was on a ten day show from March 16th this year in the current museum, to seek opinions from citizens. Three projects stood out the contest and become the candidates for the final choice, with the "treasure container" by Hong Kong's Rocco Design Limited most likely the one who laughs last, according to sources with the Museum.

Experts said that the imago and sculpt of the " treasure container" is in sharp contrast with the neighboring oval-shaped new Guangzhou Opera House. The construction of the building, mainly structured by steel, won't see too many difficulties.

Sources said though the final design is yet to be revealed, the " treasure container" will be the winner in all likelihood.
