Visiting Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on Sunday (Apr 9) visited a village of the Zhuang ethnic minority in South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, tasting the original Chinese ethnic culture of local people.
The villagers, as a special group of the Zhuang minority in the Baise City of Guangxi, adore the black colour. They are dressed in black and regard the black colour as a symbol of their group. They live in forests and mountains for centuries, and maintain the original ethnic culture.
At the entrance to the village, the princess was invited to drink up the local wine brewed from corns, which is one of the local customs to show hospitality.
Led to a plaza of the village center, Princess Sirindhorn was feasted with folk songs and dances. Stimulated by the hilarious atmosphere, the princess joined the dancers. They danced hand in hand, going in a circle with the rhythmic drumbeats.
Then the princess came to villager Yang Guijin's family for a visit. She even tried her hand at Yang's loom. To everyone's surprise, the princess and Yang talked without interpreter's help. Because the Zhuang language has much in common with the Thai language.
Princess Sirindhorn is scheduled to leave here Monday for South China's Guangdong Province, continuing her 11-day visit to China at the invitation of the Chinese government.
This is Sirindhorn's 23rd visit to China in the past 25 years since 1981.
Princess Sirindhorn, keen on the Chinese language and history, is also a writer. She recorded what she found interesting in her books every time she visited China.
