Guangdong has requested special recognition for 51 kinds of cultural items to be selected as National Intangible Cultural Heritage symbols by the Ministry of Culture this year.
Guangzhou had five traditional forms of art and crafts included in the proposal including embroidery, ivory sculpture, Kwon-glazed porcelain, Cantonese opera and Cantonese Music.
Intangible Cultural Heritage refers to all aspects of traditional cultures as well as unique places for traditional customs or cultural rituals.
An evaluation of Intangible Cultural Heritage items is held twice a year, and is conducted by cultural experts.
