Ruanxian, a kind of instruments in plucked string music
The China Folk Orchestra is comprised of four voice parts - wind music, string music, plucked string music, and percussion music. The voice part of plucked string music is absent from Western orchestras; it's distinctively Chinese and unique to Chinese folk orchestras. Common instruments in plucked string music include yangqin, liuqing, pipa, extra large ruan, large, intermediate and small ruan, large and small trichord sanxian, zheng, yueqi, guqin, and tamboura. Each instrument has a unique expression.
