A total of 100 Tibetan Buddhist statues from the White Pagoda Temple in Beijing are being exhibited in Shenzhen Museum through May 26.
The statues on display, selected from more than 6,000 Buddhist statues collected by the White Pagoda Temple Administration Office, cover a history of about 700 years from the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368) through the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
The exhibits, including the first-class state treasure Thousand Hands Guanyin with Eleven Faces, are believed to represent the best in Tibetan Buddhist art. Located inside the Beihai Park in Beijing's Western District, the White Pagoda Temple was initially built from 1271 to 1279. The temple got its name from a white pagoda inside the temple completed in 1651 in honor of a visit by the Fifth Dalai Lama from Tibet.
The exhibition will be open free to the public during the May Day holiday.
