The Butterfly Lovers is based on a widely known oriental Romeo and Juliet legend, whose source materials are the aria of Zhejiang Province's Yue Opera.

It is composed according to the story's plot, and adopts a presentation technique of combining symphony with Chinese folk opera music and depicting thoroughly and exquisitely the love of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, their opposition to arranged marriages and the sensibility and artistic conception of their transformation into butterflies.

This Concerto has won international acknowledgment for its graceful rhythm, vivid color, popular understandability and vivid national style and characteristics.

The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto is a work created by composers He Zhanhao and Chen Gang in 1958 when they attended the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

Yu Lina performed the violin solo at its debut. The Butterfly Lovers played by Yu Lina is grand and strong, depicting a natural and graceful "Zhu Yingtai", who is confident and shows her love and hatred clearly.
