A TOTAL of 57 ink paintings by Hong Kong artist Kan Tai-keung and his brother, U.S.-based painter Kan Kit-keung, are on display at a joint exhibition at the Shenzhen Fine Art Institute through Oct. 15.
Influenced by their family, the brothers started studying traditional Chinese painting in Guangzhou at an early age. The family immigrated to Hong Kong in the 1950s.
Since the 1990s, Kan Tai-keung has achieved recognition as an internationally acclaimed designer active both in China and overseas. However, he has never stopped his pursuit in ink paintings.
His recent paintings show his dual identity as a designer and painter as well as his interest in reinterpreting traditional Chinese art concepts with Western techniques.
Kan Kit-keung's ink paintings show his strong affection for waterfalls. As both a painter and a physicist, he has combined his knowledge of fluid dynamics with his understanding of traditional Chinese art to create his own unique style.
