China National Bureau of Statistics announced China’s top 1000 towns last Sunday (Sep 4). The statistics come from a report done in 2004 during which time bureau investigated nearly 20,000 towns. 18 towns from Zhongshan are on the list, including Xiaolan town which is listed in 7th place.
According to the statistics, the top 1000 towns are located mainly in the Yangtse River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, Beijing and Tianjin. The total population of the top 1000 only accounts for 10% of all towns in China, but they account for 50% of China’s total town revenue.
The selection not only focuses on economy, but also living standards and other aspects.
