The Director of the Guangdong Department of Science and Technology, Xie Mingquan yesterday (Aug 10th) signed an agreement with Mayor Chen Genkai, also the Vice Secretary of the CPC Zhongshan Committee to strengthen the
cooperation in developing specialized industrial towns in the next 3 years.
In recent years, specialized industry towns have played an important role in Zhongshan's economic development. In 2004, the GDP of agriculture and industry in 8 specialized industry towns including Xiaolan and Nantou reached 80.8 billion yuan, accounting for 39% of the whole city. According to the agreement, the provincial government will give technological support, capital and industry specialists to Zhongshan.
