Passengers evacuated after Metro fire scare
Latest Updated by 2007-05-28 10:04:01

Hundreds of passengers were evacuated Saturday evening after thick smoke was seen coming out from a carriage on Metro Line 1.

Workers at Xiang Mi Hu Station said the smoke was caused by a short circuit.

The accident happened at 7:20 p.m., when a train from Luohu was approaching Xiang Mi Hu Station.

Witnesses said the smoke was seen in a carriage shortly after the train left Gou Wu Gong Yuan Station and was accompanied by a strong burning smell.

All passengers were evacuated after the train arrived at Xiang Mi Hu Station.

By the time two fire engines arrived at the scene, the smoke had disappeared.

The operation of Metro Line 1 in the east-west direction was suspended for five minutes due to the incident
