Thousands of children in the Asia Pacific region are set to benefit from Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhen's latest fundraising event on 23rd September 2006 where vital funds will be raised for UNICEF immunisation projects in the Asia Pacific region.
Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhen's event involves Starwood Privilege guests, besides staff "60 years" theme performance, and the part of revenue will donated to UNICEF. The event has been organised as part of UNICEF's 2006 Check Out for Children Challenge initiative.
The UNICEF Check Out for Children program - which encourages guests to make a US$1 donation to UNICEF immunisation projects as they check out of the hotel - was launched in the Asia Pacific region in 1996 by UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Sir Roger Moore. Since it's inception in 1996, UNICEF Check Out for Children has raised over $US3 million dollars in the Asia Pacific region for UNICEF's immunisation programs.
"It is thanks to the dedication and motivation of Starwood employees that we have been able to raise such an impressive sum for UNICEF to date," said Miguel Ko, President Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc., Asia Pacific. "I am delighted that we are rising to this new Challenge."
Over 30,000 children die every day, mostly from preventable disease. Immunising children, particularly in emergencies, is one of the most cost-effective, preventative public health measures.
The world's largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, safe water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls and the protection of children from violence, exploitation and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.
