Wang Yongjun (L), director general of Futian District State-level Nature Reserves Administration, Jiu Qijie (R), a PhD. from the municipal agriculture, forestry and fishery bureau, and an unidentified resident examine plants under attack from an exotic South American climber, or mikania micrantha, at the mangrove reserve in Futian District on Monday (Nov. 29).
The mangrove reserve had dwindled from 80,000 sq. meters to 2,000 sq. meters over the past years due to the attack by the plant killer and the situation was still worsening, Wang said.
A citywide campaign was launched at the weekend to eradicate the South American climber, which originated in Brazil.
